The city is pretty important. As one evaluates the Missional DNA of Jesus–evangelize, establish, equip, and extend–it is evident that the gospel took root within the city. Consider the woman at the well. Jesus cultivated a relaitonship with an outsider, sowed the gospel, and reaped… a city. The testimony of the outcast within the city infected others. The disciples set up shop in the cities. Churches were small groups that met in homes throughout the cities. Cities were transformed when the gospel took root in the hearts and hands of individuals.
We’re about the city. Allowing gospel-living to break out of the four walls of church into our communities, neighborhoods, campuses, and companies. We are gospel carriers, taking the ministry of reconciliation to the streets. Our goal, infecting our cities with the reconciliation that is available in the cross–(2 Corinthians 5:18-20; 1 Peter 2:4-9) We reach the city as a church by individuals and community groups being infected with the gospel DNA.
This means that church isn’t really the end or a destination. theGATHERING is a funnel, helping individuals live for the mission of the gospel. It is a viral thing. We are the aroma of Christ, taking the gospel and rubbing shoulders and leaving Christ with them. We’re building the kingdom with each intentional conversation.
Yet, we don’t just speak the gospel, we live the gospel. theGATHERING has been partnering with 6STONES Mission Network in order to answer the call to put our Arms Around the City. Members are infect with the gospel through coaching, mentoring, nursing homes, schools, and house revitalization.
